Just checking if anyone guessed the answer to the question on yesterday's blog? Well, if you were the first person to guess that the first photo on the Rome post would be of the Coliseum then you win a one week holiday with me next year; the runner up gets to spend two months with me next year.
Photo of the Coliseum with scaffolding around it. Considering it was damaged 2,000 years ago and they're only getting round it to fixing it now says a lot about builders in Rome. I know a couple of local builders who would have had it looking as good as new in three weeks.
Shot from the other side showing the bit they haven't fixed yet.
Another angle on the Coliseum
Queue of gladiators in their expensive motors waiting to enter the arena
The famous Spanish Steps in Rome. Made even more famous in the 1953 film starring Audery Hepburn and Gregory Peck called Roman Holiday, which by a complete coincidence is also the name of today's post.
Saw a few of these today with ivy growing over from one building to another.
Went back at nightitme to photograph the monument. It looks ever better under floodlights.
Would the loser be the one that got to spend 2 months with you?
